Climax
The monster makes a request to Victor: if Victor can create a female mate for him, then he will leave Victor alone and travel far away to live in the wilderness with his mate. Victor reluctantly agrees and researches diligently to create a second monster on an isolated island, but just as his work was almost complete, Victor worries that the second monster might simply create more trouble and impulsively destroys his work. The monster witnesses this and swears revenge by proclaiming that he will be with Victor on hid wedding night.
When Victor leaves the island, he discovers that Henry was strangled to death by the monster, and that Victor himself is the prime suspect for the crime. He is imprisoned and sick until his eventual acquittal. After this, he returns to Geneva and marries Elizabeth. Because he interpreted the monster's vow of revenge as a promise to kill Victor on his wedding night, he tells Elizabeth to leave while he waits for the monster to come. However, to his horror, the monster had actually meant to murder his wife, not himself, and he then rushes to Elizabeth's side only to watch in despair as the monster kills her.

Why didn't he just create a companion
for me? Then we could have just left
each other alone and lived happily...
What a waste.
He took away my last hope, so I had no
way of coping other than to get revenge
-- which I chose to do.
